Vinegar is a weak acid. It's much stronger than acid rain, but it can be used to show the effects of acid rain over time.
One effect acid rain has is on baby birds.
Soak an egg in vinegar during the course of the school day, or overnight.
You will find that the shell dissolves in the vinegar.
While acid rain is not strong enough nor does it act over a long enough time to completely destroy the shell, it does weaken it. This allows pollutants to potentially enter the egg, as well as reducing the baby bird's protection.
This looks like a cool experiment even though I did this already and I also tried this with Coke soda and it worked.

Deletei learn the putting vinegar in shell will do something to the shell. with only 5 grams the shells only has only bubbles. with the 10 grams the shell s almost gone. the shell could be gone and the other animals will be gone and if their is no fish we will die

DeleteRicardo Navarrete, in ninety grade i learned the acid ocean can affect the exoskeleton sea life because when the CO2 would go in to the ocean the bleach would kill the sea life like fish and corral. another thing i learned that when you put a shell in water with vinegar the water and vinegar have a chemical reaction and starts to dissolve the shell and that is what happened in the sea life
DeleteZamira Period 1, What I learned in this lab was that acid is carried into the ocean and it can affect many plants to the point of disintegrate them and change the whole food web.
ReplyDeleteJose in 9th grade learned that because of this problem many fishes can die and that is also a problem for people cause many people who live by beaches and on small islands rely on fish too so that may also be problem for them and many people who have a job that contains wildlife of fishing

ReplyDeletewhat i learned was that acidic is rising in the ocean caused by the carbon decreasing and the acidic increasing so it would effect the exoskeleton sea life. I also learn that if the acidic will rise and fishes will die so that would make the food web to change.

DeleteWhat I learned today was that when it rains, the corals in the ocean get bleached. When the corals get bleached, animals in the ocean start to disintegrate. Animals depend on other animals to eat and if they die we'll eventually die.

ReplyDeleteIn this lab what i was that rain can do a lot of damage in to the ocean. Because when it rains the carbon goes down and causes the PH to build up and creates a chemical reaction. Which leads the exoskeletons in sea life to bleach disintegrate.
